Students Aganist the Pulp Mill conference March 1

Photobucket Students Against the Pulp Mill are holding their first get-together on March 1 as a way for young people around Tasmania to meet up and discuss actions to stop the Tamar Valley pulp mill. The forum will have speakers from the Greens, Tasmanians Against the Pulp Mill, and Resistance, to talk about how environmental campaigns have been won in Tasmania in the past, and the role young people can play to stop the pulp mill from going ahead. There will also be workshops on activist skills, such as how to build a Student Against the Pulp Mill group at school, creating a zine, and a political songwriting workshop. Another workshop will begin planning a protest for the April 1 national day of action on climate change, dubbed Fossil Fools day, demanding the government halts Australia’s dependence on fossil fuels, and reverse the approval of the pulp mill. The Tamar Valley pulp mill will have large environmental impacts and so it’s not surprising that the majority of Tasmanians are opposed to it being built. Resistance supports Students Against the Pulp Mill as a way for young people to get active in the campaign to stop the pulp mill, and to have a say in the decisions that will affect their lives. The Students Against the Pulp Mill forum will be held on March 1, at the University of Tasmania cafeteria, Newhnam Drive, Launceston. For more details check out stopthemill.blogspot.com
