Free public forum: Taking action on climate change Over
the past three years, thousands of people have taken to the streets and
marched against global warming. Grassroots climate action groups have
sprung up all over the country and in 2007, Australians turned their
backs on a government that had failed to heed the calls for action on
climate change. However, Labor’s recent federal budget suggests that
our government is STILL not responding to the immediate changes
required to prevent catastrophic climate change. Labor’s scheme feeds
$35 million of funding to unproven “clean coal” technology in the
coming year, and $250 million over the next three years. In the same
period, Labor has committed only $125 million to renewable energy
solutions, while introducing the regressive means test on solar panel
rebates and continuing massive subsidies of the fossil fuel industry. Speakers
include: Paddy Cullen - Oxfam Australia, Paul Wilkes - Vice Chairperson
of Sustainable Energy Now, Scott Ludlam - Greens Senator-Elect, Nicola
Paris - Sea Shepherd crew member & Belinda Faulkner - Camp for
