Together we will occupy

Sunday, October 16, 2011

The world is rising up. When we look around the globe we see people in motion. Revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa against brutal dictators, the movements against austerity measures in Europe and Britain, democratic and indigenous revolutions in Latin America, and the Occupy Wall Street protests spreading across the United States. Resistance is in solidarity with all these movements for change.

What these movements have in common is a struggle for a more democratic society and a fight to end corporate control over people's lives. This is a struggle we share in Australia. We’re here for the same reason as everyone else. We’ve had enough — and we think an alternative is possible.

Adorned with emblems of union pride, rank and file union members, representatives from unions, political parties and the broader community, took to the streets to send a clear message to the government and the big construction bosses that “If Ark goes in, we'll go out''.

Fast food workers have lost a promised rise in Sunday penalty rates, and nightly overtime for retail staff will be cut, after a ruling by Fair Work Australia.

The February 2 Age reported: “The rulings have shocked unions, but retailer groups yesterday remained critical of the federal government’s modern award overhaul.”

Resistance supports the Tahmoor mineworkers

We support the mineworkers at Tahmoor Colliery in their campaign for a fair go. For over 18 long months, their employer, Xstrata, has refused to negotiate an enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) in good faith, using dirty tactics such as lock-outs to wear the mineworkers down.
